The "Best" Business Opportunity

As we all know, buying a website through YTB will "recessionproof" your income. Apparently it is not recessionproofing the income of YTB, but that is alright as long as the RTAs are making money.

According to the recent 10-K filing, YTB paid out $19.972 million dollars to 122,910 RTAs (that is a weighted number for the year since they fluctuated from 140,000 down to 90,000). If my trusty calculator is correct, apparently YTB must have a ton of RTAs in Potosi, Bolivia if the $162.49 per year was enough to "recessionproof" their income.

But wait, let's not forget the marketing side of this business. This year, YTB did not disclose how many Independent Marketing Reps they had, but did disclose they had 8,337 that were qualified to earn under their compensation plan by having sold at least three RTA sites. Last year, they boasted 305,000 IMRs with only 58,000 being active. Let's assume that the marketing side fell an equivalent percentage to the RTA side and the weighted number would be 54,400 IMRs. So, we look at the $80.172 million in commissions paid out to these guys and the average annual income is $1473.

Put it all together $1473 + $162 = $1635 for working both of these recessionproof businesses. Look at it another way $0.78 per hour. The federal minimum wage has not been that low since January of 1950! But look on the bright side, the average Rep/RTA that was in YTB last year earned a combined $1485. So that is a 10% raise!

And just a side note, where are the big numbers? On the travel side? Or on the recruiting side?
